If you meet the requirements, you can request to convert a portion of your unused 2016 sick leave to vacation starting Jan. 11, 2017 through June 30, 2017.

Did you know that per your contract, the City of Portland is providing $150,000 this fiscal year -- between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2017 -- to the COPPEA Chapter for professional development?
It's true! Local 17 COPPEA Chapter members can apply for funds to take classes, buy textbooks, or attend conferences and trainings related to their work at the City. Funds go fast, so apply as soon as you have the details on your program!

2016 COLA in July paycheck
Your cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is 1% for the next fiscal year. It will be reflected in the first paycheck after July 1.
Because your 2013-17 contract bargained a COLA floor, or minimum, the COLA was locked-in at 1%, even though the calculation according to the CPI would have been 0.3% for this year. The Human Resources webpage will be updated in a few weeks with the 2016-17 Compensation Plan (which includes the adjusted COLA), or you can check out the link below.

Paid Parental Leave starts Jan. 1!
Great news! The City of Portland’s new Paid Parental Leave will go into effect and be available to all PTE Local 17 COPPEA Chapter members on Jan. 1, 2016!
This new leave policy allows for 6 weeks of paid leave for a newborn child, newly adopted child, or newly placed foster child. The qualifying event (child’s birth or placement) must occur on or after Jan. 1, 2016 -- the paid leave is not retroactive. If you are also using FMLA, then the paid leave must be used concurrently with FMLA and prior to using other types of leave (sick, vacation, unpaid).
