King County Coalition of Labor Unions - Principles for Budget Discussions

Rank and file membership participation is essential throughout the process, from beginning to end.

The Coalition approach to the issue will be maintained, at least initially for information gathering and for a unified message to the County and the public.

The Coalition has requested information from the County regarding specific proposal and the costs of those proposals; in addition to itemizing the budget deficit by fund.

The Coalition is unified in its belief that the financial challenges of the County must be borne equitably, which does not permit excluding certain employees or groups of employees.

However, the Coalition also acknowledges that an equitable approach may require different impacts on different groups based on funding stream and employee choice.

The Coalition is committed to minimizing impacts on represented employees, ensuring that represented employees are not treated less favorably than non represented employees, and that any concessions be coupled with protections and/or future assurances.
